Subject
Women and Girls in Science is a dedicated seminar celebrating the achievements, resilience, and impact of women in scientific research. The event aims to inspire students, researchers, and young women by showcasing role models who have shaped science through innovation, leadership, and perseverance.
This edition will place special emphasis on Bulgarian women in science, highlighting their contributions to research, education and national scientific development. Through inspiring stories and real-life career paths, participants will gain insight into the challenges and successes of women scientists in Bulgaria and their role in advancing knowledge and society.
A key focus of the seminar will also be Elinor Ostrom, the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences (2009). Ostrom is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking work on the governance of common-pool resources, demonstrating that communities can successfully manage shared natural resources without central government control or privatization. Her research transformed economic and environmental policy thinking, promoting sustainable resource management, collective action, and institutional diversity. Ostrom’s legacy continues to influence fields such as environmental governance, climate policy, public administration, and sustainable development.
The seminar will include presentations and discussions, encouraging dialogue on gender equality in science, career development, leadership, and the importance of empowering women in research and innovation.
