The event aims to inspire students\, researchers\, and young women by showcasing role models who have shaped science through innovation\, leadership\, and perseverance.This edition will place special emphasis on Bulgarian women in science\, highlighting their contributions to research\, education and national scientific development. Through inspiring stories and real-life career paths\, participants will gain insight into the challenges and successes of women scientists in Bulgaria and their role in advancing knowledge and society. \n\n\n\nA key focus of the seminar will also be Elinor Ostrom\, the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences (2009). Ostrom is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking work on the governance of common-pool resources\, demonstrating that communities can successfully manage shared natural resources without central government control or privatization. Her research transformed economic and environmental policy thinking\, promoting sustainable resource management\, collective action\, and institutional diversity. It is organized as a joint initiative between Work Package 5 and Work Package 2 and forms part of the Equality Days programme within the UNIgreen Alliance. \n\n\n\nSubject\n\n\n\nThe seminar will analyse the causes\, consequences and policy responses related to the gender pay gap\, with an emphasis on recent developments within the European Union. The seminar will provide a comprehensive explanation of how the gender pay gap is measured and interpreted\, distinguishing between the unadjusted pay gap based on overall earnings differences and the adjusted gap\, which accounts for variables such as education\, sector of employment and working hours. \n\n\n\nThe seminar will explore structural and socio-economic factors that contribute to unequal pay between men and women. Special attention will be given to the economic and social implications of the gender pay gap and its impact on women’s career development\, lifetime earnings and pension security. \n\n\n\nIn addition\, the seminar will review key EU strategies and legislative measures\, including the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020–2025\, the Work-Life Balance Directive and the Pay Transparency Directive (2023). These initiatives aim to strengthen fairness and transparency in employment conditions and encourage institutional and corporate action in favour of equal pay for equal work. \n\n\n\nThis event supports UNIgreen’s  and Agricultural University- Plovdiv commitment to promoting equality\, diversity and inclusion and provides an opportunity for sharing knowledge\, building awareness and fostering dialogue on gender equality in both academic and professional environments. \n\n\n\nStay tuned: after the event\, we will share the seminar on UNIgreen YouTube Channel.
