UNIgreen’s JRC1 – Biochemistry & Biotechnology Webinar Series: Episode 6

Topic

Phenolic Compounds and Their Gut Microbial Metabolites in Human Health: Focus on Colon Cancer Prevention

“Let food be the medicine and medicine be the food.”
With these words, Hippocrates intuited a profound truth: nutrition is not merely about providing energy or building blocks, but also about shaping health and preventing disease. Two millennia later, the fields of metabolomics and metagenomics have made it possible to explore the intricate links between diet and physiopathology, revealing the molecular and cellular mechanisms at work.

This webinar will focus on the protection offered by phenolic compounds against cancer to illustrate this relationship. Join us to explore these groundbreaking discoveries and discuss their implications for future biotechnological innovations.

When?

On Tuesday, 31 March 2026, join us for an online event, from 10:00 to 11:00 CEST with an expert speaker and partake in engaging discussions regarding molecular mechanisms!

Speaker

Davide Tagliazucchi

Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia

His scientific career has focused on investigating the role of dietary phenolic compounds and their gut microbial metabolites in human health. In recent years, his research has particularly focused on the preventive role of these compounds in colon cancer, using physiologically relevant conditions and cell culture models. He is the author of more than 100 scientific publications (H-index of 42).
