UNIgreen’s JRC3 – Food Technology, Quality and Safety Webinar Series: Episode 1

This event, organized within the UNIgreen JRC3 Food Technology, Quality and Safety, brings together researchers, students and  food industry professionals to discuss packaging-related strategies for addressing sustainability in the food chains.

Thematic

Packaging plays a key role in food quality preservation and in the prevention of food wastage. For this reason, food packaging is, by definition, aimed at sustainability. However, some approaches in the design may improve its environmental performances.

Packaging lightweighting, the use of materials from renewable sources, the adoption of compostable materials and increasing circularity through the incorporation of recyclate are potential strategies that need to be assessed while maintaining the centrality of the primary role of packaging.
