As part of the UNIgreen Day, celebrated on the 17th of February, the UNIgreen Alliance is proud to organize a series of events aimed at bringing the Green European University closer to its students and academic communities. Today is all about celebrating sustainability, environmental awareness, and our shared responsibility to protect the planet.
UNIgreen Day is an event dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting eco-friendly practices within our community. Whether it’s reducing waste, conserving energy, or supporting sustainable initiatives, every small step counts toward making a bigger impact.
SupBiotech Engineering School of Biotechnology – France
At SupBiotech campus, the 10th February we organized for students:
- 2tonnes workshop invites participants to explore the future as a team and try to limit climate change by reaching 2 tons of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gas emissions per person per year by 2050, in order to meet the commitments of the Paris Agreement.
- The Shifters Conference: “How Climate Change Will Impact Your (Future) Job”
Targeting future business leaders, this conference aims to convince participants that business and climate change are not necessarily incompatible, and that the best business opportunities are and will be those that contribute the least to climate destabilization, or even those that help mitigate climate change. - As part of our ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and bring nature closer to our community, we are excited to distribute 260 potted plants to both students and staff with a short presentation of UNIgreen.
In March, we will plant an Acer pseudoplatanus, in front of the main building.
Agricultural University-Plovdiv – Bulgaria
Agricultural University-Plovdiv will celebrate UNIgreen Day by organising a tree-planting event to promote sustainability and environmental awareness. The event is scheduled for the week of February 17–21, with the exact date to be determined based on weather conditions to ensure optimal planting conditions for the newly planted trees.
As part of this initiative, three to five Prunus serrulata ‘Kanzan’ trees will be planted in the university’s Botanical Park, near the central entrance of the campus.
Students from the Plant Protection program will lead the tree-planting efforts, joined by members of the university community, friends, and colleagues.

Polytechnic of Coimbra – Portugal
On March 8, the Polytechnic of Coimbra will celebrate UNIgreen Day with a reforestation campaign named “Together we will help reforest Serra da Estrela”. This campaign is open to the entire academic community of the institution and will aim to promote the reforestation of an area affected by forest fires, helping to raise awareness among the academic community about the importance of everyone assuming their social and environmental responsibility, namely through actions such as this. It will also contribute to offsetting emissions associated with the carbon footprint of the Polytechnic of Coimbra.
