Bioprocess Engineering of Microalgae: From the Cell to the Final Product

Type of Opportunity: Training/Course.

Location: Almería, Spain.

Deadline of Application: 2 June 2024.

As part of its Summer School, the University of Almería is organising a course on the topic “Bioprocess Engineering of Microalgae: From the Cell to the Final Product”, which takes place between 3 and 19 June 2024.

With a total duration of 80 hours, the training targets Higher Education students at all levels with interest in Biotechnology.

Main goals:

  • Gain a comprehensive overview of process for obtaining commercial products from microalgae.
  • Examine key elements for culture development such as growth and substrate consumption estimations and application of growth models.
  • Discussing strategies for bioreactor selection and the impact this has on the performance of the upstream and downstream process.
  • Gain a comprehensive overview of best practices for upstream and downstream process to maximize manufacturing effectiveness and minimize the costs for different bioprocesses.
  • Integral valuation of microalgae biomass • Assessing the usage of microalgae towards the circular economy.
