Madagascar–UNIMORE: Sustainable Cooperation

At the core of UNIgreen – The European University Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, Green Biotechnology and Environmental and Life Sciences – lies a commitment to fostering global collaboration in education and research. This mission is exemplified by the arrival of two talented students from Madagascar, Raharimanana Marie Larissa and Ramanantotserena Iveral Crusoé, who have just begun their studies in the UNIgreen Double Master’s Degree in Organic Agriculture and in Integrated Sustainability of Agricultural Systems at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE).

The UNIgreen Double Master’s is an innovative programme designed to equip students with advanced interdisciplinary skills in sustainable food production, agroecology, and systems management, preparing them to address the complex challenges of global agriculture. Larissa and Crusoé’s participation underscores the programme’s international reach and its role in training future leaders in sustainability.

Their studies at UNIMORE are part of a wider framework of cooperation between European and African higher education institutions. After completing their master’s, both students plan to return to Madagascar to contribute to the development of A.L.B.A. University, the first higher education institution in the country’s southeastern region, where they will share their knowledge and support local innovation in agriculture and sustainability.

This initiative perfectly reflects UNIgreen’s mission to create a global academic ecosystem where knowledge, research, and innovation transcend borders to promote sustainable development. Through joint degrees, research partnerships, and student mobility, UNIgreen continues to demonstrate how European universities can act as catalysts for transformative international cooperation and connecting education to empower students to become change-makers across Europe, Africa, and beyond.
